Chalk Circle : Bergen County Academy for the Performing Arts: The Caucasian Chalk Circle By Bertolt Brecht The ensemble of 17 actors, 2 stage managers and 2 musical directors are off to an unusual start by working on their production without knowing their casting! Brecht was a Marxist and the play begins somewhere in the Communist Caucuses just after WWII. We move back in time to the middle of a royal insurrection where social classes are quickly defined, turned on their heads and re-defined again. Wonderfully appealing characters lead us through a journey of dangers and treachery and a bizarre justice and uncomplicated love win the day. The style knows as "Epic Theatre" is attributed to this remarkably humble playwright who crafted our play during his short time in the US. Our production, in order to work toward a growing understanding of form and content, will reflect a process of community where each member has a certain control over the process and decisions are made as a group. Laced with enchanting songs, our musicians and actors will explore a wide array of musical traditions from Classical Indian to US pop in order to create an entirely new score for, what promises to be, a highly original production.

Children of Eden 01 : Bergen County Academies - Acadamy for the Visual and Performaing Arts presents Children of Eden. Feb 27 – 28, 2010. Directed by Stephen Kaplan. Children of Eden with music and lyrics by Stephen Scwhartz (Wicked, Pippin, Godspell) and a book by John Caird (Les Miserables) tells the story of Creation and the Garden of Eden in Act One and Noah and the Flood in Act Two. The focus is not on religion so much as the relationship between parents and children and families. The action is all set to an exciting score that ranges from Broadway to Rock to Gospel.

An Absolute Turkey : Bergen County Academy for the Performing Arts production of "An Absolute Turkey". Synopsis: Complete with slamming doors and mistaken identity, An Absolute Turkey (Le Dindon in the original French) is a lightning-paced symphony of intrigues, betrayals and misunderstandings by the supreme master of farce, Georges Feydeau. The breakneck pace of these various crises created a physical theatre that foreshadowed the zaniness of the silent screen. The ‘turkey’ (Dindon) or ‘fool’ of the piece chases after his friend’s wife; the wife hatches a mischievous revenge plot. Liaisons are arranged and bungled in a shady hotel, couples re-couple and bedtime leads to bedlam.
